The Subject

I am extremely lucky!

Before COVID I had the opportunity to travel to all corners of the globe and meet people from all social clusters. I spent also substantial time with 90+ tribes. And it might come as surprise to you, but all humans are much more alike than you think.

While working on a photography project on the streets of Seoul, Paris, Buenos Aires, or in the depth of the Papua New Guinea jungle, I always strived to do the following:

- to reflect the true personality of my subjects

- to respect the atmosphere & integrate it into the portraits

- to make my subject forget about my camera presence.

I tried using flash / light reflector/tons of gear, and the outcome was often the same. All this distracted me & influenced the behavior of the people. None of those pictures was able to capture indigenous RAW emotion.

Another thing I find in my pictures is that the first impression of a human face is the right one.

NOTE TO SELF: a true portrait should reflect the personality of my subject.
