Mountaineering Books

Legendary Mountaineering Books

Learning from a master’s is something I aspire deeply. In my case, this involves about 10% reading, 20% talking to people with deep domain knowledge, and the remaining 70% I allocate to practice.

What is the best learning model?

Recently, I sensed a great opportunity. I will have a window of 4 weeks alone while my family is in Korea. A lot of ideas surfaced in my mind. The available weeks for adventures grew to 9. You can try to imagine how my eye popped. Instantly I’ve sacred this update with my mountaineering buddy.

I will have about 3 weeks to prepare. Here are a few books to refresh my knowledge:

(1) “Mountaineering - The Freedom of Hills” is the bible of mountaineering.

You can find all kinds f useful information. From how to pick your alpine equipment, how to hold an ice ax, all the way to how to belay; navigate by compass, etc.

(2) “Chris Bonington Mountaineer - A lifetime of climbing the great mountains of the world”.

As the titles, this is visual storytelling of various legendary mountaineering adventures Sir Chris Bonington had around the world. This book is to inspire me.
