How to back up pictures

I was in my early 20’s when a good friend of mine lost his entire photo archive. This instance was devastating for him, and a lesson learned for me. Since that day, I back up my pictures. ALWAYS!

What are my criteria for a backup solution:

- TOTAL COST to not break my budget

- SIMPLICITY of installation & usage

- ROBUSTNESS of the entire workflow

- FUTURE PROOF to be able to expand, add, and replace based on new technology

I figured that I need to use various storage mediums (for example HDD, SSD, cloud). That was ONE critical step.

. HDDs fail. They even don't perform well at an altitude above 2500 m, But they are cheap.

. SSDs are fast, small & light, and work at any altitude, but expensive. They fail too.

. Cloud requires internet access. Google cloud fails too.

There isn't a perfect medium. So, I decided to combine the advantages of each one and blend them into my back-up workflow.
