Productive Laziness

Stromboli, Italy 2022

Most top performers have a secret weapon or two. Let us unveil a very effective technique: productive laziness.

This concept merges efficiency and relaxation, executed strategically. It requires knowing how to prioritize your tasks and doing only what matters. Consequently, you should eliminate any unnecessary efforts and optimize all resources while expending less energy and maximizing satisfaction. This approach often includes automating processes, delegating tasks, and striving to accomplish goals in the most effective way possible. The key is to maintain a balance that maximizes productivity while minimizing burnout.

What can be the application of “Productive Laziness” for Street Photographers?

  1. Strategic Planning: Research and plan your locations to maximize your chances of capturing compelling images, saving time and effort. Use Instagram locations scouting; the PhotoPills app to check the light conditions.

  2. Minimal Gear: Carry only essential equipment to avoid fatigue and stay agile.

  3. Preset Settings: Configure your camera settings in advance to be ready for spontaneous shots, reducing time spent adjusting on the go.

  4. Automate Workflow: Use software tools for batch editing and cloud storage to streamline post-processing.

  5. Efficient Shooting: Focus on taking fewer, impactful shots to save time on sorting and improve your eye for composition.

  6. Delegate Tasks: Outsource non-essential tasks like editing or logistics to free up more time for shooting. I use Capture One Pro to edit my images. It super great for culling images, and then for the editing part I spend no more than a minute per image.

  7. Balance Work and Rest: Schedule regular breaks to avoid burnout and maintain your creative energy.

NOTE TO SELF: Focus on what matters most and streamline brutally the rest to maximize productivity, creativity, and satisfaction.
