Why Maximizing Self-Satisfaction Matters

London, Jul 2019

Create for yourself, not for the likes.

In photography, the balance between self-satisfaction and chasing likes mirrors the concept of Yin and Yang. While external validation (Yang) can motivate, true fulfillment comes from within (Yin).

Chasing after the approval of others can lead you to create content that appeals to the masses rather than expressing your unique vision. This not only dilutes your creativity but also hinders your growth as a photographer. Instead, channel your energy into projects that ignite your passion. Whether it’s capturing the serene beauty of nature or the raw emotions of street life, let your interests guide your lens.

Remember, your love for your craft is infectious. When you create work that you are genuinely proud of, others are more likely to appreciate it too. Your enthusiasm and authenticity will shine through, resonating with like-minded individuals who share your appreciation for photography.

Note to self: Ultimately, the journey of photography should be about self-discovery and joy. So, let go of the constant need for external validation and focus on maximizing my self-satisfaction. My portfolio will thank me, and so will my true fans.
