Boundaries, Priorities & Mysticism

Nothing good comes out of comfort.

WHY BREAKING BOUNDARIES MATTER

Early on, I realized that breaking both physical and personal boundaries was the quickest way to push myself and grow. For example 2013, during my solo photography expedition to Ethiopia’s Omo Valley, I sought out indigenous tribes to document—a profoundly enriching experience. This journey taught me how to organize expeditions in remote locations, approach indigenous photography with respect, and better protect myself in unfamiliar environments.

DEFINING PRIORITIES

Travel has taught me to focus. In December 2008, right after my final exam in business school, I embarked on a train journey through India. I knew my first job awaited in a few months, but this gap gave me the chance for one legendary adventure. India is vast, and I wanted to see it all. However, I had to prioritize—not just in terms of my daily budget, but also the places I would visit.

MYSTICISM

Whether traveling solo or in groups, to popular destinations, or off the beaten path, I’ve realized every mountain or city has its mysticism—a sense of wonder and mystery waiting to unfold.

NOTE TO SELF: Great adventures happen when things don’t go as planned. There’s the unknown, high stakes, and somehow, a happy ending when I return home with a huge smile, alive, and full of stories.
