Leica MP Chronicles: Tel Aviv
As a passionate street photographer, I always look for new destinations that offer unique perspectives and exciting photo opportunities. On a recent business trip to Tel Aviv, I decided to extend my stay and explore the city through my lens. This blog post is a chronicle of my experience capturing the beauty and character of Tel Aviv on film.
Why I went to Tel Aviv for street photography?
My decision to stay in Tel Aviv longer than necessary was motivated by my desire to not only do street photography but also explore Jerusalem and Palestine. Having already documented my experience in Jerusalem in a previous blog post, I was excited to see what Tel Aviv offers.
As a street photographer, I found Tel Aviv to be a great destination. The city's vibrant neighborhoods, picturesque buildings, and charming cafes offered endless photo opportunities. Armed with my trusty Leica MP film camera, I set out to capture the city's essence through my lens.
What film I have used for my pictures?
I decided to use CineStill XX black and white film for most of my photos in Tel Aviv. I wanted to remove any distractions that may come from color and strip each picture to the essentials. The timeless quality of black and white film allowed me to focus on the details and emotions of my subjects. I also used Kodak Ektachrome 100 color film to capture the beautiful sunset over the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the surfers riding the waves.
Approaching people to photograph them as street photographer in Tel Aviv was a bit challenging. The local culture places a high value on privacy, and people are often wary of strangers with cameras. However, I found that by approaching people with respect and a genuine interest in their stories, I was able to capture some amazing portraits that showcased the spirit of the city.
Conclusion
Overall, my experience in Tel Aviv was inspiring and fun. I was able to capture the unique character of the city through my lens and create a visual diary of my time there. I hope my photos inspire others to explore the beauty and diversity of Tel Aviv and the surrounding areas.
