The First Winter Hike

It has been a while. To be more precise 1825 days since my last winter trek in the mountains.

All was set. Together with my besties, we quickly planned to depart around 6:00 am on the second Saturday of January.

Full of excitement, I went to my parent’s home to pick up my winter climbing gear a day prior to our departure. All were intact, despite the long period of no usage. The weather forecast was also promising - cloudy, a lot of colds (-12C) but nevertheless stable atmosphere.

UNEXPECTED CHALLENGE

The night before our departure, the situation went from good to bad. There was heavy snowfall, and the risk of avalanches grew dramatically. Damn nature!

Nevertheless, Mitko and Dobi came to pick me up as promised.

NEVER GIVE UP

Stoyan was waiting for us. While on the way, we contemplated what to do. It was clear that none of us wanted to risk unnecessarily, but still, we wanted to use to be in the mountain.

A few moments later, we found ourselves on the way to "Cherni vrah", Mt. Vitosha (Bulgaria).

NOTE TO SELF: Know when to give up and want to push. To have a tomorrow in the mountain, I need to be flexible in my decisions.
