How I Got LeicaMP

There is an ongoing trade war between US and China, COVID-19 pandemic reigns the word, massive demand for products, reduced production capacity. Prices are rising.

The majority of my friends explore various ways to protect the little assets we own. We look for various ways to invest - crypto/properties/ luxury timepieces/ currencies/ commodities...you name it. All options are on the table.

At the same time, it became clear to me that I would like to challenge myself to shoot on film in 2022.

I can use my Canon AE-1 camera, but recently I got it damaged. Still need to find an expert to help me fix the light leak.

What if I purchase a camera, that not only will persevere its value with time but also might allow increasing it. Is this even possible?

Some light bulb ignited instantly!

What are the best tools to create street photography?

Easy answer - a Leica M.

Which is one of the most legendary analog Leica M?

Leica MP - full black paint finish.

What focal length lens I will use for my street photography?

HCB / John Free / Robert Capa all legendary photographers used 50mm. In today's world, streets are more packed, distances are shorter. Hence, I feel 35mm will be more suitable.

Which is the best 35mm Leica lens?

Hey hey, I want to be pragmatic. Can't burn so much hard-earned cash to get the most advance and expensive lens. Let's get real.

I will shoot predominantly around f8. I need a fast, light, and small lens. Boom!

What budget will be needed?

And now the story got ugly. For that set-up, I will have to shell close to 8k EUR. Quite a fortune.

To make this even more complicated, there is even no supply of a Leica MP. If I want one, I will need to wait a year or two. Mint condition is also extremely rare.

Never give up!

And I got lucky. After searching for about 10 days, and with the strong support of Leica Austria and my friends, I managed to find a solution that saved my kidney.

NOTE TO SELF: If you want anything, you will do it. It was great that finally, you managed to resell some part of your photography equipment to support the purse of this Leica MP. Sell the rest fast.

Seems this blog will turn into a journal of my adventure with Leica on the streets of Sofia and wherever else the wind brings me.
