Forgetting Our Past
Buzludza is a historical peak located in the very center of Bulgaria. 1868 was the place of the final battle btw. Bulgarian rebels and the Turks occupied the country at that time. However, a far more interesting fact is the "Buzludza Monument" was built on this peak by the Bulgarian communist regime in order to commemorate the events in 1891 when socialists assembled secretly in the area to form an organized socialist movement.
One summer morning I was chatting with my dad. We jumped from topic to topic, and gradually we start talking about Buzludzha. In an instant, both of us realized that we never have been there. So, fairly quickly the idea to go for a day trip was born.
The monument is easily accessible by paved mountain paths. Yes, the communist spent a lot of money to transform Buzludza peak into one of a kind place on earth.
The Entrance to the Main Chamber, Buzludzha, Bulgaria
The main gate of the building is locked to prevent visitors from any harm. Because the monument is left to the mercy of nature, a visitor can notice that from the inside the degradation is massive. It's a miracle how the ceiling is still standing.
When a picture is word 1000+ words...
From the terrace, there is an amazing view. Look north and in clear weather, you can also see Romania. Turn south and you will see the remaining part of Bulgaria.
